History and Heritage: Chovannur Panchayat is a region with a rich history that includes the 1500-year-old Chemmanthatta Shiva Temple, Sabhamadam, the historic battlefield known as Porkkalam, and the famous “Thathrikutty” incident. Social Reform: Even before the Temple Entry Proclamation, this region initiated social change by opening the Vellattiruthi Sree Vishnu Temple to backward communities. Educational Progress: This is the birthplace of Panditarajan Kanippayyur Sankaran Namboothiripad.
